Due to the location of the Aspi-Titter suspension bridge in a cantonal ban area, the State Council ordered that the it be closed for the winter to protect the chamois.
The Aspi-Titter Hängebrücke over the 120 meters deep Weisswasser canyon at the feet of the Fiescher glacier is the last missing link in a continuous high-altitude mountain trail from the San Gottardo region to Lake Geneva.
In the heart of the UNESCO world heritage site, it’s not only a direct connection between the two villages of Bellwald and Fieschertal, but also joins the Aletsch region with the district of Goms.
The construction permit has been published on October 2nd 2015 in the Official Journal of the Canton Valais.
The new connection increases the area's appeal for tourists and generates an important socio-economic value along the hiking trail by increasing the frequencies of cable cars, hotels, restaurants and mountain huts.
Furthermore, the gorgeous landscape of the Aspi-Titter area is made accessible to a wide public in a sustainable fashion.
Be it a Sunday stroll or a multiday mountain hike, the Aspi-Titter Hängebrücke offers something for everyone. The surrounding villages become more quickly accessible for each other, the region trail offer becomes even more interesting and exciting new multi day hikes become possible, e.g. Meiringen – Grimsel – Gommer Höhenweg – Märjelensee – Riederfurka – Belalp – Beichpass – Lötschental – Lötschenpass – Leukerbad – Gemmi – Kandersteg.
